How we research travel information

Travel details change.

When opening rules, transport schedules, weather-related access, ticket procedures or legal/entry requirements materially affect a trip, we prefer current information from official authorities, attraction operators, public agencies and other primary sources.

Examples include the U.S. Forest Service for El Yunque, the National Park Service for San Juan National Historic Site, official ferry information and U.S. government guidance for entry/document questions.

We also prefer durable advice where exact figures are likely to change. A planning principle that remains useful is often more valuable than copying a timetable that may be stale by the time you travel.

Our approach to tours and activities

Puerto Rico has strong bookable activity categories: rainforest experiences, snorkeling, boat trips, bioluminescent bays, food tours and adventure activities.

We try to separate two questions:

Is the activity useful for the traveler?
Does it need to be booked as a tour?

Old San Juan, for example, can be explored independently. El Yunque may be easier with a guided transfer for travelers without a car. A bio-bay experience naturally requires more organized logistics.
